"On the Media" had a great interview with Michael Hastings this weekend, the best soundbite from which was his comparison of following the presidential campaign and watching porn.

"You see two people perform, you're kind of envious of them, you kind of like when one gets humiliated, and the best clips get sent around the internet... [and if you do it for too long], you feel bad about yourself and you're like 'Man, I should get married or get a life or go exercise more.'"

He also made some good points about what to do as a writer when you look at your body of work and come to the realization that you're nothing but a hack. Mostly I enjoyed it because it hit home for me as his explanations for why he left the campaign beat to go to Afghanistan reminded me of a lot of the reasons I got out of the reporting business all together.
