My sister and I listened to John Denver and the Muppets Christmas album so many times my parents had to buy a new copy after about two years. Many of the songs fall into the gap between "too silly to be taken seriously" and "too serious to be funny." A few others fall into the "so over-the-top it kind of sucks" category.
The version of "Silent Night/Stille Nacht" on the album, however, hits just the right balance. The producers used the chorus of multiple voices united, allowing the likes of Gonzo and Kermit to blend instead of stand out for comedic purposes. I also love the history lesson and the use of the German lyrics.
